Who is Kit Bernard Foster, Jodie Foster’s younger son? Unlike his True Detective star mother, he shuns the spotlight and has made few public appearances – he’s also ‘super feminist’

A recent graduate from Princeton University, 23-year-old Kit majored in chemistry and shows no inclination to enter Hollywood like his mum, who went so far as to say he would ‘never’ be an actor

The mother-son duo rarely make public appearances, but the Silence of the Lambs actress looked every bit the doting mum as they posed for pictures on the SAG carpet. He even had a brief but humorous part during Foster’s “I Am an Actor” segment during the show, drawing laughter from the crowd.

So, what do we know about Kit?
He attended the 2025 Golden Globes with his mum
Kit, 23, joined his mum at the Golden Globes earlier this year, where her performance in True Detective: Night Country won her the award for best female actor in a limited series. During her acceptance speech, she gave a sweet shout-out to her sons. “Kit, my scientist son, and Charlie, my actor son who’s starting his career, hopefully you understand the joy, such joy, that comes from doing really hard, meaningful, good work,” she said, per People, adding, “My boys, I love you, and this, of course, is for you.”
Is Kit following in his mother’s footsteps?

The two-time Oscar-winning actress once told The Guardian that her youngest probably won’t have any plans on entering showbiz. “My younger son is really shy and I can promise you he will never be an actor,” she said confidently. So far, it looks like she was right! According to Us Weekly, Kit studied chemistry at Princeton University and earned his bachelor’s in the subject.
What’s his personality like?

In an interview with People in 2016, Foster gushed over Kit, calling him “the nicest person I’ve ever met”. She also told Magic Radio that he’s “a little sensitive”, which is why she held off on letting him watch The Silence of the Lambs for years. Speaking to The Guardian last year, Foster revealed her boys are “super feminist”. “My two don’t like sports. They like to watch movies and sit at home, and they’re really into their female friends,” she said.
